Hair anatomy was recorded using a Polylite microscope calibrated against an integrated circuit with known dimensions as shown below. The white circle represents the field of view of the eye piece.
Individual hairs were measured by counting the scales or bands within the field of view. Accuracy for the band spacing was of the order of 1%.
